DOMAINE CHRISTIAN SERAFIN
CHARMES CHAMBERTIN GRAND CRU 2015

Moderately generous wood fights somewhat with the overtly earthy and spicy aromas of red and dark pinot fruit that are cut with plenty of sauvage', " elements. Here too there is good freshness and underlying tension to the big-bodied, powerful and impressively constituted flavors that brim with dry extract while offering outstanding complexity on the balanced, firm and brilliantly persistent finish. While this is certainly a big wine, it's not really massive though with that said, note that once again lots of patience will be required should you wish to experience this at its peak.

MOREY SAINT DENIS 1 ER CRU LES MILLANDES 2015

A pungent nose is presently composed of wood toast and reduction. By contrast there is even better punch and mid-palate concentration to the moderately stony and beautifully well-detailed flavors that also display focused power on the broad-shouldered, firm and driving finish. Good stuff if you have the patience to allow this at least 6 to perhaps even 10 years of bottle age.

GEVREY CHAMBERTIN VIEILLES VIGNES 2015

This is both aromatically fresh and expressive with its attractively layered mix of red and dark berries that is liberally laced with notes of earth, humus and underbrush plus a hint of wood spice. The lush and velvety yet quite muscular medium weight flavors possess slightly better mid-palate concentration along with firm supporting tannins on the lingering and reasonably well-balanced finale where hints of warmth and wood surface. Overall though this is an excellent effort will need at least a few years of bottle age to unwind before it will drink well.

GEVREY CHAMBERTIN 2015

A brooding and sullen nose speaks of various dark berries, pungent earth and plenty of sauvage character. There is good freshness and plenty of energy to the medium-bodied flavors that possess a surprisingly refined mouth feel yet there is a certain muscularity on the youthfully austere but not really rustic finale.

BOURGOGNE 2015

Reduction presently masks the fruit but there is both good volume and verve to the delicious middle weight flavors that are shaped by firm and mildly rustic tannins on the solidly complex and persistent finish. This is a high quality Bourgogne that is built-to-age at least for the short to medium-term and will need at least a few years.

ECHEZEAUX DU DESSUS GRAND CRU 2011

A spicy, elegant and again, very pure nose of essence of red pinot fruit, earth and underbrush complements the equally pure, supple, round and superbly detailed medium weight plus flavors that benefit from the abundant and palate soaking dry extract. There is beautiful delineation to the strikingly well-balanced finish. This is slightly lighter than I typically find it but the sense of harmony and proportion is first-rate.

NUITS-SAINT-GEORGES LES HAUTS POIRETS 2011

A fresh, cool and layered array features notes of various red berries, earth and a subtle hint of spice. There is reasonably good richness to the round and relatively forward middle weight flavors that tighten up on the moderately rustic but attractively persistent finish. While this could easily be enjoyed now with air I would be inclined to hold it for another 4 to 6 years to allow the supporting tannins to further round out.

CÔTES DE NUITS VILLAGES 2011

Here too there is enough wood to notice but not enough to dominate the expressive nose of pungent earth, plum and pretty violet aromas. There is excellent richness to the detailed and solidly voluminous flavors that are underpinned by notably ripe tannins and fine length. This isn't especially refined either but again, it delivers very good if not exceptional quality for the appellation.

BOURGOGNE HAUTES CÔTES DE NUITS 2011

A discreet application of wood sets off more complex and slightly riper red and black pinot fruit scents that lead to subtly mineral-inflected flavors that also possess riper tannins. There is good complexity to the delicious yet serious and persistent finish. This isn't refined but you rarely see something this good in the context of the appellation.
